Yellow Springs Added to GoBus Network, Expanding Access and Economic Opportunity

The Yellow Springs Chamber of Commerce welcomes the announcement that Yellow Springs will be included in the Ohio Department of Transportation’s expanding GoBus network. Tickets are already on sale, with service beginning Monday, March 2.

The expansion adds 20 cities to the statewide system, bringing the total to 65 communities served and strengthening connections between Yellow Springs and key regional destinations. The service is made possible through partnership with the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) and HAPCAP, which administers the GoBus program, along with coordination and local collaboration through Greene CATS Public Transit.

For the Chamber, this development represents more than a transportation update. It is an economic development opportunity.

Improved intercity connectivity increases visibility, supports workforce mobility, and drives visitor traffic. Nationally, motorcoach travel generates billions in economic activity each year, supporting jobs and local spending in restaurants, retail, lodging, and entertainment. For a community built on independent businesses, arts, dining, and outdoor experiences, easier access translates directly into opportunity.

As a destination known for its unique character and strong sense of community, expanded access positions Yellow Springs for continued growth. This has the potential to be another strategic tool to support our vibrant economy and small businesses by increasing both regional access and awareness.

GoBus, Ohio’s Rural Intercity Bus Program, was created to link rural and underserved areas to metropolitan centers that serve as hubs for essential services and onward travel. The program is funded through the federal Intercity Bus Program and administered by ODOT in collaboration with HAPCAP.

Now celebrating its 15th anniversary, GoBus has grown from just 10,000 annual riders in 2010 to more than 129,000 riders in 2024. Currently, GoBus connects 36 cities, placing 64% of Ohio’s population within 10 miles of a stop and 93% within 25 miles of any intercity bus stop, including Greyhound and FlixBus. –ODOT

The Chamber views inclusion in the GoBus network as a collaborative step forward that enhances connectivity, broadens reach, and supports long-term economic vitality for the business community.

Marketing and route materials will soon be available at the YS Chamber office, located in the Yellow Springs Historic Train Station (101 Dayton Street). For immediate route details and trip planning, visit the official GoBus website.
